As everyone knows, the novel Ulysses is a masterpiece of modern literature written by James Joyce and set in Dublin, Ireland.
It was published in 1922 and it’s filled with comedy, sadness and fantastic wordplay, revealing the rich inner life of the characters as every thought (including the dirty stuff) is noted in peerlessly descriptive language.
The events of the novel take place in one day – 16 June 1904 – and every year this day is celebrated as Bloomsday, named for for the novel’s main protagonist, Leopold Bloom.
But did you know you can get the novel completely free? Later in this post I’ll tell you how.
As I was reading, I recognized many of the place names, so I took a walk around Sandymount and South Dublin City (our office of the fulfilment and customer support side of Maglus is close by, on Upper Baggot Street), and took some photos of Joyce’s Dublin in 2014.
I’ve been looking at children’s apps and Mini Doodle Cast is a very impressive app for iOS that is perfect for the Maglus Stylus – and only $2.99 at the time of this post. This app is by the developers at Sago Sago and it captures, in real time, the creation of your children’s animation, as well as recording any cute commentary that the children and or adults talk about during the creation of the drawings.
Hello – allow me to introduce myself as I will be frequenting this page every now and again. My name is Noel Joyce and I am one of the designers at Applydea. I wanted to weigh in with my role on what we are doing and perhaps give you guys an insight into the work that goes into the design and development of our products.
First a little about myself. I am a product designer which was my chosen career path after an accident seven years ago left me confined to a wheelchair and ended my career in the military. I went to study in the institute of technology in Carlow where I graduated with an Honours Degree in Product Design.
As I progressed through college The realization that it was difficult to get work as a product designer in Ireland began to become apparent and this led myself and a group of like minded designers to starting a collaborative called Designhub. Long story short Designhub has been a hotbed of activity that has allowed a number of designers develop some cool products and product ranges, one of which was the spinoff that is Applydea and the Maglus stylus which you mostly arrived at this website to have a look at.
Positive pressure, some of our first shipments going out!

Just ONE MORE WEEK TO GO!! Nobody could possibly be as excited as I am, the in-house German at Applydea. Not that I know any of the player’s names or even which teams qualified – oh NO – I’m just in it for the fun, the games, and the male players. Vain? Call me what you wish, but nobody celebrates football like a clueless German.
