Mini DoodleCast and Maglus – Draw and share that creative moment

I’ve been looking at children’s apps and Mini Doodle Cast is a very impressive app for iOS that is perfect for the Maglus Stylus – and only $2.99 at the time of this post. This app is by the developers at Sago Sago and it captures, in real time, the creation of your children’s animation, as well as recording any cute commentary that the children and or adults talk about during the creation of the drawings.

We were up and running as soon as the app was installed – making digital keepsakes that any parent would cherish or send to relatives at home and abroad.

There 36 different pages with a few words and images that are used as a platform to start the creative process as the children draw pictures to complete the set-up provided. For example, they’re started off with a simple drawing of two trees, and then asked “Who lives in the forest?” with both text and pleasant narration.

There are many brushes to choose from – the small, medium, and large tips of a pencil, crayon, and marker. Nine colours are included such as typical shades of red, blue, or yellow, as well as a dark brown.
Drawing with the Stylus, being able to record it and the priceless comments that most child make at this age is fantastic, and the option to pause the video is a clever addition.

The beauty of this app isn’t really the quality of the drawings – they may not be always be brilliant, as the child learns to draw and to improve their eye to hand co-ordination using their stylus. It is the ability to watch back those creative moments that have been preserved, and see the drawing process as a short video.

Another really nice feature is Jinja the cat, she can be seen seen patiently watching the video unfold as well. It’s cute, how when the video is over she turns to the viewer, claps, and meows so politely.

There is also the option for a blank page, allowing you to work on handwriting numbers and maths, as well as anything else you want to try with the Maglus and this open-ended app.

Is there anything to fault in this app?
No, not really – if you were to be very picky, you might say that white should be added to the palate of colours (to add features to a coloured background). Having said that, I think plenty of practice using the eraser will compensate for this.

So, get this app and use it with the Maglus, to capture those moments that you spend with your child as they learn to draw and have the ability to share or relive them at any-time you want. I am delighted with it and will be sure to download any other apps Sago Sago have created.

Scott's two year old already monopolizes his smartphone and Android tablet, so Scott wants him to learn how to write and draw using the Maglus Stylus. This will hopefully mean less re-decorating of the house, as he likes using crayons on the walls when the paper's all used up. That's his son, not Scott. When he's not helping customers get the most from their Maglus Stylus, Scott likes to mountain bike, hike, swim, and spend time in the park with his family.
