One of the reasons we developed Maglus was because of our own personal bugbears when it came to using stylii. As a product designer I use a range of different tools to create new experiences through products but often times that is not enough as those ideas need to be explained. this can be done through different types of media.
I love creating concept boards and story boards for products because a single image can have a huge impact. It can really get across the experience I am trying to deliver. Recently though I have begun to get more involved in using movies to do this. This I suppose is a natural progression but it did not come without a pretty steep learning curve.
I have been working on this really neat new product that was inspired by small space living. It is a device that enables users to have a holistic experience of growing a seed to a seedling through propagation and then onto a plant in an all in one product. To explain this experience my regular story board port of call was not going to get the job done so I turned to my iPad and began to play around with iMovie.
This app was once a paid for app but now comes free on the iPad. You can shoot video right there on the iPads camera and then edit straight away. I had to have something a little more professional looking so I used my DSLR to shoot the video and the used my iPad for the editing. Maglus came into its own at this point as I could manipulate the app with greater precision for cutting pieces of the movie and adding text etc. It made a real difference as I could see more of the screen as my hand wasn’t in the way when performing actions that needed some finesse. Check out the result here.
All in all I really enjoyed using iMovie with Maglus and for me it is doing the things I needed to do and resolves one of my bugbears. I have been lucky to be able to create with one of our creations. What other editing apps do you use? Let me know.
Until next time.
Thanks for reading.
