What is Drawing?

The term drawing is applied to works that vary greatly in technique, making it difficult to define. Simply put, a drawing is a graphic representation by lines, tones or colors of an object or idea.
Drawing is in effect the basis of all visual arts.

There are many different reasons why people draw – to visualise thought and work something out, to provide a pattern to follow or give instructions on how to make something, to describe or record something. However the most basic reason people draw is for the pleasure and satisfaction it gives them!

“I sometimes think there is nothing so delightful as drawing.” – Vincent van Gogh

Brighton Panorama – Yvonne J Foster

We got a brilliant response from Yvonne’s blog post last week. As so many of you admired her work and story, we’ve decided to show you some more! Through chatting with Yvonne over emails, we discovered a really lovely project she had been working on – ‘Brighton Panorama’. The monochrome silhouette images really caught our attention and we knew that we just had to share them! We’ll leave you in the capable hands of the talented lady herself to explain the interesting journey from sketch to reality…

Hello again!

Work began on this project in early 2014.

A sketched version was sold in a charity auction raising money for Mind at Happy Planet’s Doodlefest in May 2014.

Art and Mental health – Yvonne J Foster

We’ve a guest blogger this week, a lovely friend and user of Maglus – Yvonne J Foster. Yvonne is a Brighton based artist and designer. Using iPad, photography, collage and her general scribblings, she creates her own world. We think Yvonne’s work is very special and the story behind it is even more inspirational.

Read on and enjoy looking at some of her beautiful pieces…

Hi, Yvonne here. I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself and what I do. So…here goes!

I simplify portraits of people and remove all their complications. I break down images into each component part, shape and colour. I love to disappear into my work and get caught up in the details.

Using Maglus with Zen Brush App

Hey guys,

Noel has put together another great blog post for us. He is preparing for a work trip to San Francisco, but he managed to squeeze out a post before he jets off! This time, he covers an app that you might not have heard of. But believe us, its worth checking out! Read what Noel has to say below. And as always, comment, tweet or get in touch whatever way suits. We love hearing your feedback….

Noel here again,

One of the cooler drawing apps I have used is called Zen Brush. It’s not one of the more popular apps but it is pretty unique. It has very little in the way of tools and so it is pretty easy to get to grips with. So for all you techno-phobes, this should be perfect!
