Designer Q and A – with Noel Joyce

We wanted to bring you something a bit different for this post. If you’ve been following our blog, you’ll know that Noel Joyce has been contributing regular posts on all aspects of Maglus and design. We thought it was about time you guys found out a little more about the designer behind Maglus. We managed to tear him away from all his creative productivity for a few minutes to chat about all things design.

1. How did you get into design?

After I had in accident in 2006 that ended my career in the Irish Army and left me confined to a wheelchair, I looked to start a new career as I could no longer perform my duties in the Military.

Autodesk – Sketchbook to product!

Hey Maglus usersNoel here.

I haven’t been on here in a couple of weeks as I have been away. I have just returned from San Francisco where some startups whoose projects I worked on were launching their new products. It was a great trip and one on which I got to check out the Autodesk Gallery in downtown SF. Autodesk happen to make a couple of awesome iPad apps that give a good intro to the world of design from the perspective of digital sketching and 3d modelling.

Shakefest – Tagtool Projection on Charleville Castle!

Our last post touched on Shakefest and the involvement of creative duoBenjamin Rabe and Fabric Lenny AKA Bunny & the Beardman. Specialising in engaging installations, the Maglus maestros seemed the perfect candidates to put on an exciting show!

So the Maglus team took the guys on a roadtrip to Tullamore, Co.Offally to celebrate this festival of World Cultures, Art and Dance!

Coderdojo workshop at Shakefest

It has been a busy few weeks for the Maglus crew, we’re excited to share what we’ve been up to with you!!

We were honoured to be part of Shakefest – a vibrant, World Cultures Art and Dance festival last weekend. It was a special event for us as it took place in Tullamore, Co.Offally – the hometown of Maglus!

We wanted to put on something special for this great event, so we enlisted the help of some friends of Maglus – German iPad artist Benjamin Rabe and drawing maestro Fabric Lenny. Both guys do some really diverse work – iPhone art, animation, web design and collaborations with other creatives is just a flavour of what they get up to!

First up, the guys held a small Coderdojo workshop on Friday evening for a group of kids.

Hello from China – (part 2!)

While I was in China and when I got a couple of minutes, I spent a little time working on a new product idea I have been thinking about. Its really amazing how quickly an idea can be developed when working in Shenzhen. As with all product ideas they need to be fleshed out with some sketching and for this I use my trusty Maglus with Graphite Tip and Notebook.

In the case of this particular project it has already been established what the product will do, in this
picture a map has been made to show how it will work. Once I got this work done I could hit the markets and find some components for the electronic components.
